“Where are you my darling?” Sobs wracked his frame. The rising sun enveloped him in a blanket of warmth. Two little hands cupped his face.

“Dad, I am here besides you. Get up. Go save her.”

He opened his eyes. Years of guilt washed away, he entered the operation theatre.

That night he slept peacefully.

The Shock

He came from the opposite direction. Her old, weary eyes took in his looks. He looked strange and ominous. They came face to face.

She felt a tug at her neck. At the same time a bike neared her and before she knew it the man was gone.

Her gold chain and pendant were gone.

Walking down the road she felt a searing pain on her forehead as it came into contact with something hard. “Ahh!” the cry was out before she knew.

Two frightened eyes sought forgiveness. Suddenly there came up a pair of chubby hands from behind the girl and extended a red rose. Pain forgotten she hugged them.

The Ostrich

Vani sat there oblivious of the world around her lost deep in Kalam’s “Wings of Fire.” The book inspired her to think, feel, dream. She sat there all day head buried deep in books, away from the noisy world. These books were the only companions she had in her silent world. They understood each other.
