Corpokshetra: Mahabharata in the MBA Yug

BLURB

“It’s a Bloody Good Book!”

The Pandavas have returned home after 13 years of exile. And they are demanding their stake in Hastinapur Inc.

But the Kauravas, led by the haughty Duryodhana, aren’t ready to give them a penny. The battle lines are drawn, only this war is in the present-day Kurukshetra – the corporate boardroom.

As the Kauravas and the Pandavas don their sharpest suits, Krishna – the wily Consultant – strategies for peace.

This is a humorous, modern take on the Mahabharata (with due apologies to Rishi Ved Vyas).

An epic story retold for the MBA generation.

WHAT ME FELT ON GOING THROUGH THE BOOK

PLOT / STORY-LINE:- Interesting and engaging! One that’s sure to tickle your senses and make you smile right till the end. There is humor, there is satire. Set in the 21st century we find the battle of Kurukshetra being fought in the Corporate boardroom, on the cricket field and golf course. Here Dhramaraj Yudhishtra gambles away everything in a game of poker instead of dice and Krishna plays the role of the wily Consultant hell bent on extracting a fee for each service he renders his clients.

While Kunti maa drowns herself in peg after peg of gin and tonic to cope with stress, Bhishma pittamah is easily fooled into leaving the boardroom battle by a man in womens’ clothes. Told in just 120 pages this epic battle fought in the modern day boardroom is not only hilarious but unique and speaks volumes of the author’s creative side.

CHARACTERIZATION:- The characters are well developed with all their imperfections. But yes, I felt the Duryodhana of ‘Corpokshetra’ was way too mild when compared to the Duryodhana of the original epic ‘Mahabharata’. What I further liked about the characterization was that the characters are easily relatable. One can easily understand why they act as they do. There is no element of the supernatural.

LANGUAGE & PACE: – Language is simple, crisp and lucid thus making it an easy and enjoyable read. The pace is perfect no speeding up nor slackening down, just smooth and fast enough to keep the reader engaged till the end.

VERDICT

‘Corpokshetra’ is in every sense truly ‘A bloody good book’ one you must definitely pick up. I’ll give this book of ‘an epic story retold for the MBA generation’ a 4 on 5.
