BLURB

When the superstar diva of the past decade doesn’t want to play the hero’s mother on screen, she insists that she be reshaped into the most beautiful woman in the world…by any means.

This is just one of the many odd situations which plastic surgeon Dr. Dhruv faces in Mumbai. He has dealt with tyrannical bosses and finicky patients while undergoing his training, during which he has also won over a stunning doctor as his life partner. But satisfying the movie stars is a different ball game, because every girl wishes to have bee-stung lips, and every guy wants to flaunt a six-pack abdomen without working too hard. And all this while, he has to resist losing his balance over his ravishing female clients. Dr. Dhruv’s journey surpasses even a masala movie for humour, drama and action. In debunking many a myth about cosmetic surgeries, the book will enthrall those who can do Anything to Look Hot.

ME FEELS

WOWs!!!

Plot: Fresh, unique, interesting and realistic, the book is a virtual tour of the life and experiences of a plastic surgeon. Told in first person the story starts with Dr. Dhruv the protagonist clearing the entrance test for the M.Ch (Master of Chirurgiae) course. It then slowly but steadily weaves its way through his life story. However what really interested me is the way the Author himself a Plastic Surgeon, has highlighted the weakness of the human race i.e. the never-ending urge to look good and young.

The book busts a few myths regarding plastic surgery and plastic surgeons the common one being that all’s rosy-posy in the plastic surgery business and that plastic surgeons make loads of money easily. Well, it’s not so. Fame does not come easily. To be a leading Plastic Surgeon one has to toil for endless hours, depend upon ones clients and friends to campaign for him/ her by word of mouth and also have the right people in his/ her life. In short, the life of a successful Plastic Surgeon is not a roller-coaster ride but one filled with hurdles. A surgery gone wrong can mean not only the end of one’s career but years of litigation and sleepless nights too. As regards money, the successful ones do make loads of it but then along-with it comes loads of responsibility. In the rat race to become successful in the field, the Plastic Surgeon has to make innumerable sacrifices.

‘Anything to Look Good’ also makes us aware that plastic surgery deals not only with the human face but that it involves a lot more. The field is wide and encompasses the entire human body. It has the potential of making the ugly look beautiful, the obese look slim and trim and the aged look young and fresh. The book goes into the nuances of some of the procedures in detail.

The story is interspersed with bits of romance and humor here and there but is devoid of unexpected twists and turns. But then the book does not belong to the romance genre nor is it a mystery/ thriller. Hence to expect twists and turns is out of place.

Language: Language is simple and easy to understand. The beauty of the language is that it is devoid of complex jargon and confusing sentences.

OOPs!!!

Story- line : The part regarding Dhruv’s father’s entry into the world of acting towards the end, could have been avoided. It does not add value to the story. Instead, it looks out of place just like the sixth finger on one’s palm.

RECOMMENDATION & RATING
